Building and Safety

The Building Safety Office is responsible for enforcing the building and life safety codes. This department issues building permits and all applicable sub-permits for the construction of new homes, remodels, additions, new commercial buildings, commercial remodels/additions, and also reviews all commercial and residential plans prior to building permit approval.

Building Safety assists in the understanding and complying with the current ICC Codes, Including the IRC, IBC, NEC2008 Electrical Code, Mechanical Code, Plumbing and Gas Code.

Field inspections are made on all construction, including additions, alterations and repairs, to insure that the citizens of Johnson have a safe and sanitary environment. The health and safety of our citizens are our main goal.

Can I build a shed in my backyard?

No building permits are needed if your shed is under 120 square feet.
